The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) maintains neutrality on the Supporting Affordability and Fairness with Every Bet (SAFE Bet) Act, which aims to establish nationwide sports betting regulations.

While the SAFE Bet Act highlights important consumer protection needs for gamblers, NCPG notes that the legislation lacks sufficient investment in public health infrastructure to address gambling addiction effectively.

The organization advocates for a comprehensive national public health approach that includes:

  • Federal government research into gambling addiction
  • National self-exclusion tools
  • Common-sense advertising standards
  • Population-wide harm reduction strategies
  • Adequate funding and regulatory support

NCPG continues to prioritize the Gambling Addiction Recovery, Investment, and Treatment (GRIT) Act, which would provide the first federal funding for:

  • Gambling addiction prevention
  • Treatment programs
  • Research initiatives

Senator Richard Blumenthal and Congressman Paul Tonko have been instrumental in raising awareness about gambling-related harm and advancing policy discussions in this area.

The National Problem Gambling Helpline provides 24/7 free and confidential support for those affected by gambling problems:

NCPG remains committed to collaborating with lawmakers and stakeholders to develop effective policies that protect consumers and support those affected by problem gambling.
