Problem Gambling Awareness Month 2025: Understanding the Hidden Addiction
Problem gambling affects millions of Americans, with 2.5 million adults suffering from severe gambling problems and up to 8 million experiencing mild to moderate issues. During March 2025, the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) observes Problem Gambling Awareness Month with the theme "Seeking Understanding."
This initiative aims to:
- Increase awareness of problem gambling as a mental health condition
- Remove barriers to care
- Encourage open discussions about gambling's impact on individuals and families
- Promote available prevention, treatment, and recovery services
- Encourage healthcare providers to screen for gambling problems
Problem gambling, also known as gambling addiction or gambling disorder, can severely disrupt daily life, careers, and relationships while causing significant social, financial, and emotional harm.
Throughout March, organizations nationwide will host educational workshops, special events, and advocacy efforts to support those affected by problem gambling.
